5 things to know before you visit a you-pick flower farm

If you’ve never been to a pick-your-own flower farm before—or even if you have—there are a few things you’ll want to know before heading out to the field. We love seeing folks discover the joy of gathering fresh blooms, and we want your visit to Harvey Family Farm to be as magical and easy as possible. So here are five quick tips to help you get the most out of your flower-picking adventure:

1. Come Early (or Late) for the Best Experience
Our farm is open from sunrise to sunset, and while the flowers are always beautiful, they’re happiest when it’s cool out. Early morning or later in the day tends to be the most pleasant for you and the blooms. Midday heat can make flowers wilt faster after cutting—and let’s be honest, no one wants to sweat through their bouquet-making.

2. We Have Containers & Snips for You at the Stand
We offer 3 sizes of containers, and water is available by the restroom. Please remember to return our snips before you leave.

3. Dress for the Field
This is a working flower field, not a manicured garden—so expect a little dirt, tall grass, and maybe a curious bee or two. Closed-toed shoes, a sun hat, and a water bottle go a long way in making your visit more enjoyable. And if you’re planning a photo session, feel free to bring a change of shoes.

4. Check What’s Blooming
Our flowers change with the season. Zinnias and sunflowers in the summer, sweet William and snapdragons in spring, and so much more. Follow us on Facebook & Instagram or check our website before your visit to see what’s currently blooming—and maybe plan your bouquet colors in advance!

5. Payment Is Self-Serve (and Super Simple)
We keep things easy at the farm stand. Just scan the QR code, drop your cash, or use Venmo or PayPal—whatever works best for you. We trust our visitors and keep things honor-system style, which helps us stay open every day without needing full-time staff at the stand.

We hope your visit is peaceful, inspiring, and full of flowers you absolutely love. If you share photos, be sure to tag us @harveyfamilyfarm—we love seeing the bouquets you build. And if it’s your first time, don’t be shy! We’re happy to help you get started.

See you in the field 🌸
